How are we this close to spring already?! With a new season around the corner, I’ve decided to stick with the basics I picked out last month and work in some of the trendier items that have been in my closet for a while. This will allow me to put more money towards some of the exciting spring styles that are coming out soon.

As I mentioned last month, tossing those trendy pieces isn’t necessary. If you’ve got your basics down, the rest will follow suit. It’s so much easier to get more wear out of a more stylish piece when you can match it back to the essentials. Once I’ve got my basics in check, I like to slowly but surely add in a fun pattern or color every once in a while to keep things fresh.

Piece #1: The Marlowe V Neck Sweater

Outfit also featuring: Thick Curb Chain, Novel Necklace, Thin Hoop Earring

Okay, so, I’ve had these pants for about a year now and I love them! I was hesitant to buy them at first because they were quite pricey, and I knew I needed other items that could be worn more. What encouraged me to hit the checkout button was the idea that I knew I already liked them enough to consider them a statement piece in my wardrobe. If I could find a way to wear these pants a few times a month, throughout the year, then I could justify the purchase. The pattern is daring and bold, yet in a neutral color, which means I’m able to pair them with a lot of pieces that are already in my closet. Buying something trendy in a more neutral color and/or print is one way to ensure the piece will be with you for a while.

Piece #2: The Blake Sneaker

Outfit also featuring: Anika Tank, Irene Feminine Cardigan

Who doesn’t love a good sneaker right now? The pandemic really reinstated that underlying level of comfort for me as I’m sure it did for a lot of us. Personally, this meant wearing sneakers more often. While a sneaker is a great way to dress a look down, don’t be afraid to pair them with anything and everything. I’ve styled the Blake more laid back here, but I could easily swap my jeans for a fun skirt to bring the juxtaposition of casual and dressy. Having a white or more neutral colored sneaker will bring more versatility.

Piece #3: The Mae Drapey Tee

Let’s hear it for the white tee! A quality white tee is the ultimate closet staple. I don’t like to use the word “need” too often, but us girls need one of these. Don’t know what to wear? Throw a white tee on. It works with everything! Keep it more relaxed by pairing it with a pair of jeans or joggers, or spice it up with a bold pair of trousers. Here I have the Mae Drapey Tee tied in a knot and paired with a favorite skirt of mine. I didn’t want to spend too much time searching for an outfit, but I knew I wanted a fun pop for the day so I grabbed the skirt and picked out a simple white tee without hesitation. A white tee is also a great base layer to any fun jacket or cardigan. The best part about the Mae is that no matter how many times I wear it, the quality always holds up -- no pilling or holes, just soft, buttery perfection.
